Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity to occupy some of your spare time?  Do you really want to help a worthy cause that benefits disabled veterans?  We at Patriot Service Dogs need your help in various capacities.  By volunteering, you not only help our disabled veterans, but you also reap some benefits for yourself.

Volunteer Opportunities with Patriot Service Dogs

Volunteering is a win-win for everyone. Here are a few of our current volunteer opportunities in the Jacksonville, Florida area:

Puppy Raisers/Trainers

We need some dedicated people who are capable of consistently training their puppy, attending weekly evening classes to learn training procedures, and completing evaluations on their puppy 3-4 x per year. Training involves taking the puppy on your errands, shopping, going out to dinner, and going to the movies, etc. to acclimate the puppy to these activities he will encounter with his veteran handler.  A service-pup-in- training has the same rights of access as a working service dog. So anywhere the public can go, you can take the service-pup-in-training (once he/she is housebroken)! This is a fun 18-month to 2-year commitment.

Photographer(s)

Are needed to document some of the activities such as training classes, field trips, team training (training the veterans with their new battle buddy), graduations, fundraising events as well as pictures of the pups with a flag when they arrive to begin training in various Jacksonville locations.  Volunteers should be able to attend a one-hour training class on a Thursday evening every so often to take pictures.

Event Set-up

This volunteer opportunity Involves helping to load tables into a pickup truck from our unit at Atlantic Storage in Orange Park, as well as prizes and equipment needed for an event.  Volunteers also unload the truck, carry these items into the event venue, and set up the tables in the ballroom at Courtyard by Marriott on Wells Rd. This takes about two-to- three hours.

Event Breakdown

Involves taking down the tables, loading them onto the truck, loading event supplies back into our van, and unloading these items back into the storage unit afterwards. This takes about two-to-three hours.

Event Runners

Are needed to pick up donated food from nearby local restaurants who donate food for the paid attendees. This usually involves approximately an hour or two.

Donations Solicitor

We need a sales -oriented person to approach local businesses to request product donations or gift certificates for raffles for our semi-annual fundraisers.

Public Media Specialist

Is someone who can contact local newspapers, TV stations, and local magazines to run short stories to publicize Patriot Service Dogs and let the public know we need volunteers.

Volunteer Coordinator

We need a very organized person to keep a spreadsheet to track volunteers and to notify them of event dates and times they need to volunteer. Time involvement is possibly an hour or two a week.

Patriot Service Dogs, Inc is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping our disabled military community gain a sense of independence through their partnership with a well-trained service dog. Our focus is placing service dogs with disabled active, retired or medically discharged military who have given so much for our freedom.
