Our 1st Annual Poker Run was a wonderful success. The day dawned bright and clear, a little cool at first but quickly warmed to the mid 70’s. It could not have been a more perfect day had we ordered it. All our volunteers were there and ready, each person taking their assigned location and doing so with gusto. It was the first Poker Run for each and every one of us with Patriot’s! So although we were all very inexperienced, everyone made up for it with their enthusiasm!

We had a wonderful time at Disney in December.
Disney Transportation Day is a wonderful way for our raisers to all get together and learn the proper way to get on and off many modes of transportation. We first board a bus (using both the stairs and handicapped lift) we learn the proper way to ride while on a bus (dog in front of you and not in the aisle). We get the opportunity to get on and off a boat and experience the rocking of the boat and the loud horns. Next we board the Magical Monorail, learn to sit quietly while moving and wait our turn to unload. We also take advantage of the many types of elevators in the different hotels. We’re given a lesson on how to safely enter and exit the elevator by blocking the door first then having the dogs enter – so the doors never close with the dog on one side and handler on the other.
It also gives raisers a chance to “work” a different dog and the dogs the opportunity to take direction from someone new. A real win/win and a fun day for all.
