Why This Module Matters
Throughout this course, you have learned about the realities of partnering with a service dog and have had the opportunity to reflect on your own readiness.
This final module asks you to consider the journey from a different perspective. Every Patriot Service Dogs service dog represents years of work, trust, and hope.
Our responsibility is to honor that investment by making the right match, not simply the next match.
The Patriot Service Dogs Community
Patriot Service Dogs is intentionally a small organization.
We know our dogs long before they are matched with a veteran, and we continue supporting our teams long after graduation.
When you receive a Patriot Service Dogs service dog, you become part of our community. We celebrate successes together. We learn from challenges together. We stay connected because graduation is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning of a new chapter.
That relationship also comes with responsibility.
Every Dog Deserves the Right Match
Every Patriot Service Dogs service dog is an individual.
Each dog has its own personality, strengths, learning style, and preferences. Throughout training, we get to know every dog, not simply to teach tasks, but to understand what environment, lifestyle, and handler will allow that dog to thrive.
That is why matching takes time. That is why not every applicant is accepted. And that is why we sometimes ask applicants to wait until the timing is right.
Our success is not measured by the number of dogs we place. It is measured by the quality of the teams we build. A successful placement should still be successful years after graduation.
Representing the Community
When your dog wears a Patriot Service Dogs vest, you represent far more than yourself.
You represent your dog, our volunteers, our trainers, our supporters, and every veteran who has partnered with a PSD service dog before you.
We expect every team to uphold our training methods, conduct themselves with professionalism and integrity, and protect the reputation of the organization and community they represent.
Behavior that damages our community, undermines our training philosophy, or shows disrespect toward others is not consistent with our values and will not be tolerated.
Is Patriot Service Dogs the Right Fit?
We recognize that our level of ongoing involvement and accountability is not for everyone.
Many excellent service dog organizations have different philosophies. Some offer greater independence after placement, and that may be a better fit for some applicants. At Patriot Service Dogs, we have intentionally chosen a different path.
If you are looking for a lifelong relationship with the organization that trained your dog, and you want to be part of a community that values stewardship, accountability, and supporting one another, we believe you will feel at home here.

If you have completed this course and feel more confident than ever about applying, we look forward to learning more about you.
If you have completed this course and realized now may not be the right time, we hope you will view that as a success too. Choosing to wait is not giving up. Sometimes it is the decision that gives both you and your future service dog the greatest opportunity to succeed.
If you have come to the conclusion that another organization would be a better fit, we recommend looking for another Assistance Dogs International member organization.
Whatever you decide, we hope this course has helped you make that decision with honesty, confidence, and a deep respect for the partnership you are considering.
